Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted by endocrine glands and reach different cells via blood. These chemicals have various functions and among that, one function is to elevate your mood. This means when we say ‘we are happy’, we actually have our hormones working right. These hormones are ‘The Happy Hormones’.
The list of these mood elevators is quite big. These are Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin and Endorphins.
Dopamine is a ‘feel-good’ hormone. It is released when you do something pleasurable. It could be eating favorite food for some, music for some, workout, traveling, etc. So it is better to dope your brain with something you love :)
Serotonin stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness. Additionally, it helps decrease our worries and is associated with learning and memory. Entrance examinations could be named ‘Serotonin exams’!
Oxytocin is the ‘love hormone’. The bond between parent-child is due to this wonder hormone. This hormone also promotes trust and empathy and feeling of security in any relationship.
Endorphins are natural pain relievers. These increase when you do activities that you enjoy the most.
These hormones are definitely produced in our body naturally but we should always thrive to keep the levels high and we can easily do this by altering our lifestyle.
The ways by which we can increase the levels of ‘happy hormones’
Walking in fresh air
Exercise
Eating chocolates well in moderation
Laughing with your best friends
Music
Meditate
Do not think a lot
Definition of happiness might be different for everyone but the result is the same, ’Producing happy hormones’. Find your way, live your life, Do not over stress over situations that are beyond your control, have empathy towards others, help others, do not envy, do not overburden yourself, develop a hobby, thrive hard to get a fit body and, yes, you will always have the above guests.
Hope this article helped to produce some guests in your brain too.
